My mom used to tell me that people should have done a lot of good things in their previous birth to be born as a girl in this one. I used to laugh at her inside thinking yeah right , we can play, roam , party , we can be topless , we can do what we want without having to worry about the consequences and she calls women lucky ! After twenty two years and thousands of little incidents, I am gradually realizing the weight in her words.
Let us assume India is facing Kenya in a cricket match. Here Men are like the Indian team. They are expected to win. A man is expected to make it big in his area of expertise, else he is not respected. He is expected to be settled by 25. He is expected to be able to support his family. He is expected to be unemotional. He is expected to be the bread winner. Now coming to women, our Kenyan team. They are the underdogs here. There are no expectations on them .Some may argue that it is not the case and women too are expected to perform. Well, I am not talking about only the metrosexuals living in big cities. Do you really think parents of girls in Tier 1, Tier II cities and villages expect their girl to work and run the family? So the pressure to perform is non existent. How convenient would life be if the pressure to perform is taken out of the equation? Add to this the miracle of birth and everything my mom said in the first sentence would make a lot of sense.
See I have almost sold you my idea and I have not even mentioned the underappreciated dad thing. You can read all about it here . From the moment we step into this world, we are under the influence of women. First your mom. She has a big part to play in the the way you speak, you behave, the language, your expressions. Eat your greens now .Don't go out in the sun. Why are you not drinking water? When you are 30 months old, you are sent to a preschool and nursery where again there is a female who begins to control you. That's the first time we are scared of a woman and we remain scared our entire life. Stand up on the bench. Bring your parents to meet me tomorrow. Don't talk to that girl.
People used to tell me that age 15-25 are the best years in our life. I used to wonder why. Now I know those are the best years because that is only time in your life when we are not controlled by a member of the fairer sex. There is a slight break in the middle and then the control is taken over by the girlfriend. You look so odd with short hair. Why don't you wear a belt Then the wife comes along. Just when you think, this female is different. She is actually listening to what I am speaking, I can be happy henceforth, your honeymoon is over and the control regime begins. Go to the tailor and get the salwaar I gave. We are running short of gas. Why don't you ask for directions? God's sick way of gradually increasing the suffering. Who would want to be a man in such a world huh?
You know this would all be tolerable If only they could stop complaining all the time. How hard must they have been complaining if one guy invented the work Nagging, because complaining wouldn't even begin to cover what they were going through. Complaining has its limits and they are breached by women all over the world every single day . My mom once argued with me that I love mango flavored Complan when I told her that I didn't like it .True story. You know something is wrong with the world when you are being made to justify your likes and dislikes.
It's difficult being a man especially in this age of western culture where you are supposed to act as if you are okay with everything , even with things which bother you . The thing which women need most is respect. When a man does not respect women he is called a Male chauvinist and when the same thing is done by a woman she is called a Feminist . Talk about double standards. Well what can we do about it ? It's a woman's world afterall .

When a man does not respect a woman, he is called a chauvinist but when he does not respect a feminist, he is just a man.

Interesting post. It made a good read. This is why we like blogs after all, we get to read a lot of honest opinions from various people.
Although, be assured, it goes both ways. From "you should know how to cook, keep the house", "learn to be gentle and respecting" right to men controlling us with 'don't be out so late', 'this is not a woman's job' so on and so forth. Everyone has their own pair of shoes that bite hard.
